How far below the surface do you grind?

Typically 6 to 12 inches below grade, which is enough to sod or mulch over cleanly. If a concrete slab or driveway is going on top we grind deeper and remove more root material. Tell us at booking what is going over the area.

Do you grind stumps from another company's removal?

All the time. Send a photo with something for scale next to the stump and tell us the gate width. We price most residential stumps from the photo without a visit and can usually schedule quickly.

What happens to the wood chips?

We can leave the grindings in the hole as backfill — they decompose over a season — or haul them off and top the void with clean fill. If you want chips for a mulch bed we can place them there instead. Your call at booking.

Will the stump resprout after grinding?

Grinding below the root crown removes the sprouting tissue. Oak and other hardwoods occasionally send up suckers from lateral roots, but this fades after one or two growing seasons as the root system starves.

Can you grind a stump close to a driveway or fence?

Yes, with care. We work close to hardscape regularly. If a concrete edge or irrigation head is within the grinding path we adjust the approach angle and chase that side by hand. Note any irrigation heads when you submit the photo.
